Fiordland National Park, New Zealand
I landed in South Island, went to bed, and this is what I did the next morning. The drive from Queenstown to Milford Sound is about 4hrs, but don't fret: the landscape will hold you in a trance the whole time.
The Drive
Mmhm. Go grab yourself a granola bar and keep scrolling.
I suggest you start making that mountain music playlist right now. Get some Noah Kahan in there. Mt. Joy. You get the idea.
POV this could be you
Did you get that granola bar yet? Yeah? Get another.
Yep we're still on the drive. This is the bus roof!
I wonder if we could see Antarctica from up there.
Alrighty, hop back in the car, we're close to our stop.
Milford Sound
Apparently the term "sound", as relating to water, comes from old Norse referring to "swimming" or a "strait". That's what google said anyway. Idk, I study philosophy. Ask your tour guide when you go.
What's out there?
Tiny boat! And giant mountain!
Oh man. Get your cameras ready. The world-famous waterfall approaches.
If you ask the boat captain, they might take you into the waterfall. Legend says it's got rejuvenating powers. That, or our captain just wanted to watch us get drenched in the water.
Is that gold? Might be. But it's a national park so it's going to sit right there all beautiful, natural, and untouched because capitalism doesn't always need to win.
